Welcome to the Event Publisher training for the Comet Calendar! The Comet Calendar, powered by the Localist platform, is the University’s go-to resource for promoting, discovering and following campus events.

An overview of the calendar system

The UT Dallas Comet Calendar is available to all departments and groups to promote various events to campus and community audiences. While the Localist-powered calendar is intuitive, we are providing this training documentation to help new users learn the platform quickly. Whether you’re a student worker, faculty or staff member, this training guide will walk you through the platform so you can easily navigate the Comet Calendar.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I assign an additional department or group to my live event?

Users can assign events only to their specified department/group. If you want to assign secondary departments/groups, email Web Services at webdeveloper@utdallas.edu. If you are routinely assigning the same secondary department/group, please fill out our Calendar Request form to add additional assignments to your user profile.

I submitted an event, but I don’t see it on my Dashboard or in my pending queue.

Users can only view and edit events that are assigned to their respective department/group. If you cannot find an event that you submitted, it is typically because it was submitted without an assigned department or an incorrect department. Please reach out to Web Services at webdeveloper@utdallas.edu, and we will update the event.

I submitted an event, but I don’t see it live on the calendar?

All submitted events must be approved by an Event Author.

  • If you are not an Event Author, you will reach out to an Event Author within your department or group to approve your event.
  • If you are not an Event Author and would like to be, you can request a user account change via our Calendar Request form.
  • If you are an Event Admin, you can approve your own event by following our detailed instructions on the Approving an Event page.
I’m part of a new department or group on campus, and we would like to be added to the Comet Calendar.

We can create a new classification for the new department/group. Please reach out to Web Services at webdeveloper@utdallas.edu, and we will get you set up in the system.

We previously published an event on the Comet Calendar, but due to extenuating circumstances, we need to cancel it. Can you help with that?

Yes! We have provided detail instructions on the Canceling an Event page. If you need to cancel an event that is part of a reoccurring series, email Web Services at webdeveloper@utdallas.edu.

I need to bulk upload a lot of events for my department. Is there a way that I can do that?

Yes, but it depends. We have an Event Manager user role that has the ability to bulk submit events. However, this user role is limited to staff with Comet Calendar experience due to other permissions that accompany this role.

If you are a student worker or new University team member, unfortunately we cannot grant you this level of access.

If you are a seasoned Comet Calendar user and can see this role as a benefit to your department, you can read more about the Event Manager user role or request access using our Calendar Request form.

My department would like to add a calendar feed on our website. Can you help us add this?

If you are or your department has a website editor, we have provided detailed instructions on creating an embeddable calendar widget in the Embeddable Widgets page.

If your department does not have a website editor, please reach out to Web Services at webdeveloper@utdallas.edu, and we will coordinate with your team to get a calendar widget on your website.
